cabinet of hate
Stories of the week 28 July
In an act of extraordinary generosity, Britain’s chief trade negotiator’s pay packet hit £380,000 last year despite failing to sign a single new post-Brexit trade deal.
But never fear, the good old USA is here or rather Donald Trump. Trump calls Boris Johnson his ‘mini-me’. Boris Johnson has done anything Donald Trump has told him to do in the past and together there going to create a post Brexit trade deal in record time.
Which is all rather fortuitous as delusional Boris Johnson’s demand that the EU reopen talks was unsurprisingly instantly rejected. Boris Johnson is taking the UK towards No Deal despite being warned there are no pre-booked spaces on ships for medicines.
Then Boris Johnson put together his new team. A team the Press dubbed ‘the cabinet of hate’. The most right-wing government the UK has ever seen. The Press called the cabinet Boris Johnson’s ‘x-men of liars’ full of ‘snakes, stupidity and sycophants’.
Donald Trump’s influence on the UK continued in the tanker stand-off with Iran. Gibraltar changed its law to impound the ship and many fear that the UK is being dragged into conflict by the US. Other sections of the Press highlight the stupidity of defence cuts.
In more harrowing news, it emerged this week that US troops are refusing to feed staving Syrian civilians in a camp and an utterly tragic image of a 5 year old dying Syrian girl saving her baby sister after an airstrike.
Protests in Hong Kong continue as authorities are accused of hiring criminals to beat up protestors as China cracks down on the civil unrest.
In news that should put politicians on alert, 71% of people in the UK consider the Climate Emergency is more important than Brexit and housing. Through Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion, the climate crisis has moved to centre stage with many activists saying it’s about time if not maybe too late.
In less than a year, Extinction Rebellion has gone from completely unknown to global recognition and success. This is largely due to its fantastic unique design identity of protest. Much like the Suffragettes. Extinction Rebellion’s design incorporates joy and purpose. Extinction Rebellion’s graphic designs are at the V&A Museum in London.
